Oil on Canvas 2 x 6
“In High school all I wanted to be was cool.” The artist Shawna Ariel explains to the viewer, “smoking made me think I was.”. This painting is a depiction of
Shawna Ariel’s “Cooler Days” When cops still asked her where her mom was and rebellion was a necessity. The scene depicts a Halloween in 2012 where her
friend did a full face of skull makeup smoking in the woman’s bathroom of the school. Walking the streets with chains clinging, tuques on and chokers
sharpened, this takes the artist back to a time when music venues like 333 were open and Punk never dies.
