"Harvest Moon" is an 18x24 oil painting that explores themes of biophilia. It is inspired by my recent studies in my Prax Ecology class, where I have been conducting en plein air field studies in forests and mountains, observing more-than-human life and seasonal changes. I have become deeply fascinated by nature, my own relationship with the natural world, and the damage humans inflict on the environment, as well as the art of star mapping.
The isolation of human life remains a central theme in this work, often portraying glimpses of a utopian future where nature thrives in the absence of humanity. This concept is especially intriguing to me, as I am also captivated by the history of natural forests and the myths, legends, and stories about the land—particularly those indigenous to British Columbia.
Through this painting, I aim to delve into my thoughts on the unknown, creation and preservation, isolation, and the vision of a world where nature and living beings flourish without mankind's intervention.
